Hello, been wondering what Afroman Spice has been up to.. well lets break the Silence. We want to officially thank everyone who attended the premiere of SLAY QUEENS OF AFRICA on 14th -15th  April 2018 at THE SQUARE . It is never too late for us to  share our sincere gratitude so thank you.  We are proud of Debie Kagisha, a new member in Afroman Spice, she brings her warmth, laughter, hardwork and talent to the company. We look forward to seeing  more of her on stage.

Nabasa Linda, one of the actresses in the show traveled to Berlin, Germany in May 4th -22nd  to attend the International forum Berliner Festipele. It was a great opportunity for her to not only meet other theater makers but also watch German theatre. It brings us great joy to know that her networking during that period paid off and she has been invited to  Permanente Beunruhigung international

Permanente Beunruhigung international“  is a festival in Berlin Germany– for one month, from mid-November to mid-December 2018, productions in cooperation with Berlin-based and internationally active performers will be going on at Ballhaus Naunynstraße. Artists of all disciplines are invited to create performances in constellations that have never been tried before.
Permanente Beunruhigung” is, more than anything, a format: two days of joint work between four performers who have never collaborated artistically before, coming up with a performance to be shown on two evenings. For two days, with the support of production management and technics, everything is centered on encountering each other, having ideas together and developing tracks for a collaborative performance. The encounter, the energy of that encounter and the topics that each one brings in, be it queerness, feminism, Black live, Metaspora, postcolonialism, afrofuturism etc., are what matters most.
Ms Linda is currently  in Capetown, SouthAfrica  for the Early Years Theatre Incubation program funded by Goethe-Institut Johannesburg. She and Patricia Kayendeke (Zoey the story teller) are representing Uganda. Special thanks to Francois Venter and HELIOS Theater.  We wish Linda and the team well as they look  forward to the next 8 weeks of creating new works!
Ms Linda started her acting career with Afroman Spice, so it gives us immense pleasure to see that she is not only growing artistically but also professionally.  it is for this reason that Afroman Spice is opening up to nurture more artistic young women. We are glad that you will see new faces  on the  Afroman Spice stage very soon. it maybe your sister, your friend or colleague, we are open to talent. We look forward to having you support us in this journey of inspiring other young women artistically.
thank you.

Here is a link of an article about our recent show.

The premiere of SLAY QUEENS OF AFRICA, a satirical musical happened on the 14th and 15th April 2018 at The Square in Kampala, Uganda.

The musical takes us on a satirical journey as we discover the lives of Slay queens in Lagos Nigeria, Harare Zimbabwe, Nairobi Kenya and Kampala Uganda.   The performers were Namulondo Rashida, Nabasa Linda, Kagisha Debie and Alexander Tyson.

Rehema Nanfuka was the director and she did an amazing job at that. She brought out the best in the performers and challenged them with tasks that helped them know and play the different characters better. The music was beautifully written and played by Kaz Kasozi and his band. The songs were catchy,  witty and funny.

Oliver and Vicent were stage managers who did a tremendous job at making sure that all props, costumes were ready at stage entries and exits. The performancers all together had over 20 costume, jewellery, wigs and foot wear changes. Once the show commenced,  the back stage was quietly chaotic.  Withan over all white audience, it came down to the ticket price that saw many locals unable to afford.

The team explained this, “Slay Queens of Africa was costly to produce. We were unable to get financial support so we had to raise the ticket price.” Nonetheless the audience said the musical was worth their  money and time.

Afroman Spice will stage Slay Queens of Africa again, this time they hope to attract support so that the tickets are more affordable to the general public.
